Macro Retreat Journey: Choosing Legacy in This Season of Life

Macro Retreat Journey: Choosing Legacy in This Season of Life

Reposted on August 2nd, 2026

Recently, I was asked to reflect on what a “macro retreat” means to me. The more I sat with that question, the more I realized that we rarely discover the next version of our lives while rushing through them. We discover it when we pause long enough to listen — to our yearnings, our deepest desires, and the quiet invitations that often get buried beneath responsibility and routine.

For me, my latest macro retreat began when I allowed myself to pause and ask: What is this next season really asking of me? What do I want to create?

That pause came as I was leaving corporate life after a long and meaningful career as an HR professional. At first glance, it may have looked like I was stepping away from something. But internally, I knew I was stepping more deeply into something. I wasn't retiring from my purpose. I was making room to live it in a new way.

I had spent years doing work I loved — helping leaders grow, supporting people through change, and creating spaces where individuals and teams could become better. In this next phase of life, I began to see that work through the lens of legacy.

As a member of John Maxwell’s certified leadership team, I've been deeply influenced by his teaching on legacy. Legacy is not simply what we accomplish. It's the intentional influence we leave in others. It's who we develop, who we empower, and what continues because we were willing to invest what we have learned into someone else.

That resonates deeply with my value of generosity.

I've built experience, wisdom, skills, and perspective over many years. My macro question became: How do I use what I have learned — and what I am still learning — to help other leaders, especially women, grow their own paths? Something I learned from the many mentors who have poured into my life.

That question led me to reflect on legacy in the present, not just legacy someday. I began asking myself:

  • What am I doing today that is planting something meaningful in the life of another?
  • How are my current choices, conversations, and commitments reflecting the legacy I say I want to leave?
  • Who am I intentionally encouraging, equipping, or empowering now so that what I've learned continues beyond me?

This season has also reminded me that I am still becoming.

One of the most empowering discoveries at this stage of my life is realizing that growth doesn't have an expiration date. In recent years, I completed my master’s degree, started my own coaching and consulting business, and continued investing in my own development. I recently completed a coaching certification focused specifically on women. A method that helps women connect with their deepest desires and uncover the hidden barriers that can keep us from transforming our lives.

I'm also continuing to grow as a facilitator and speaker because I want the spaces I create for others to be meaningful, practical, and transformational.

Here is what I know: it's not too late to learn something new. It's not too late to shift direction. It's not too late to become more fully yourself. Wisdom and reinvention can coexist.

Another important part of my macro retreat journey has been community.

A macro vision needs community. We are not meant to do life alone. In this season, I've found women to do life with — not just to network with, but to grow with, be encouraged by, and dream alongside.

Through spaces like the Women Mentoring Collective, MAC Retreat, and the opportunity to partner with like-minded women to help launch the non-profit Women Leadership & Entrepreneurship Center, I have experienced the power of being in rooms where women can speak honestly about transition, purpose, uncertainty, and possibility.

Sometimes the macro becomes clearer when we're sitting in community with other women who are also brave enough to ask deeper questions. Who we allow close shapes our thoughts, our courage, and our future. That has certainly been true for me.

My macro retreat has also helped me refocus. It's helped me clarify what I want at this stage of life. It's helped me become more intentional about where I invest my time, money, energy, and gifts. It's helped me choose alignment — not just activity. And, it's helped me ask whether the life I am building reflects the values I say matter most.

This season of my life has taught me that a macro retreat is not just about making a big plan. For me, it is about listening deeply to my inner desires, choosing intentionally, and allowing my life to become a reflection of what matters most.

The macro of retreat helped me see that I am not done.

I am becoming.
I am building.
I am leaving legacy one woman, one conversation, and one intentional choice at a time.

Your next season deserves your attention. Pause long enough to hear what your life is inviting you to become.
